ANTIVIRALS is a unique consortium of 7 European Academic Partners and 5 Industrial Partners that offers training to 15 Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) in the field of antiviral drug development. The consortium is funded by the European Union as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie European Training Network.
ANTIVIRALS was born with the aim of finding answers to different virological questions. Since the beginning of human history, viral infections have in some way disturbed the life of the human being. From the smallpox that caused more than 300 million deaths to HIV that has killed 25 million people including all kinds of viruses. Fortunately, thanks to advances in research, we have developed vaccines and antiviral drugs that have been successful in curing many viral diseases. However, there is still a long way to go.
Therefore, it is necessary to continue researching to discover new and better therapies whose objectives are, to improve the quality of life in patients as well as reducing health costs.
In our network, we are 15 PhD students from 12 different nationalities, as diverse and different as the viruses that we study and despite such a great heterogeneity, we form the perfect team, interacting and learning from our common experiences when we attend our meetings and sharing our personal experiences about our specific projects.
